.NET is much much much much faster then c++ and also has global compatiblity between the .NET languages. there are more things that are better ... if ur interested read somewhere , dunno where i u wanna learn real and fast coding you should learn vb.net or c#.net if u wanna go in the hacking-scene u should know asm and c++

start with somethiing easy like qbasic or vb to get a feeling for programming then go to c/c++ and/or assembler (very basic code most flexible )

If you are smart just do what I did and go straight into ASM and C++.

IMO, you should start from the lowest form of programming which is Assembly Language. This way you'll understand how your system works. If you're good enough with it already then you will have no hard time understanding other higher languages.

most ppl think vb6 is shit but it isn't, vb6 is as good as u ur programming skills in it... u can even make threads in vb6 so mt apps are possible, hooks are also possible and all the other shit... theres no use in learning c++ anymore... sooner or later everyone will be using .NET so start with it and its ok u can write nice progs in vb6 just look at my account server emulator for aegis or maldiablo(ASB Team) is working on an interserver for aegis in vb6 everyone who knows anything about aegis must know that the interserver is the server that has never been emulated so its quiet hard since no packet reference exists don't say gaythings about vb6 u know its easier then c++ and u can also make nice progs .... i don't care if my prog needs 1 sec or 0,0005 sec to connect to a local mssql db i don't really care o,0 vb6 works great for me and u can still code complicated things in it and also hacking stuff asldkfjalösdkfjaölskdjföal skjdfölakjsda ssdfa asdf a sd asdf sdfa sdfa sdfa sdfa sdfa sdfa sdfa a sdfa sdf afsd fawe t awe ta et aw etr sry for floodspamming o,o

But i like it because you can get fast results, anyway its later really easier on programms like c++ because they all base on it... somehow.

Perl is not intermediate, it should most definately be up there with C . It took me a year before I started getting good with C#, and it took me around...sayyy......6 months(?) to get better with perl (I'm a slow learner). I agree that starting with VB is a good idea. Also, if you know some codes like HTML or PHP, it may help you advance with the syntax used in the more advanced codes, making it alot easier to learn. Hope this helped.

I'd have to say just learn C. VB wil teach you some bad habits, perl is silly, java will get you pointed and laughed at, and asm is too damn hard.

I disagree. VB is an excellent programming language to start on. There's not many people that can just sit at a computer and learn perl / C as their first scripting language. Learn VB, and you'll hit the ground running when you first crack open a perl / C compiler. Though, if hacking is all you want to do/try, then you'll need to at least learn about SQL/SSI and ASM a little later down the track. Perl I learned just for the hell of it, on a rainy day (month). It's worth learning though, any scripting language is. Also, VB6 is a great compiler, I've used it for 18 months. It's old, granted.. ancient even. Albeit a great way to compile your own VB scripts. .NET makes me sick, but yeah, everyone's going to be using that soon so no choice but to learn it. Another thing that's becoming widely popular is Python.. I had to learn that back when I was in college, but I hated it. I still do, but I'm learning it just so I can say I know it. >.> PS. Indephysis: Don't you dare pick up any bad habits from this place. xP
